For your second post, we will visit the world of Ancient Egypt.  What a fabulous culture full of exotic mysteries, magnificent architecture, backbreaking class structure, and gods that are both giving and dangerous at the same time.  We learned about the great pyramids, the line of successive pharaohs, the mystical and life-giving Nile River, and the great history that defined these amazing people’s civilization.  Keeping this in mind, I want you to answer the following posting using the comment interface.

What made the Ancient Egyptian civilization special?  What factors led to its rise above other civilizations?  How did the empire expand and survive?  What elements allowed it to flourish?  How is it similar to the Catalhoyuk settlement we previoiusly studied?  Do you think they developed in the same way?  For the same reasons?

Answer using the following expectations:

·        Answer whichever of the above question interest you.  You do not have to answer them all!

·        Be sure to use examples from class to demonstrate your understanding and to back up your answer

·        Use 4-6 complete sentences

·        No online slang (ex LOL, IMO, etc.)

·        Proper spelling and punctuation

·        Have fun and be original.  Don’t be afraid to take chances in your learning.

As part of our ongoing study of Ancient Civilizations, we as a class will look to unlock the majestic secrets of the Ancient Empires that have dotted our world’s landscape for the past 20,000 years. From Ancient Egypt to the mysterious Catalhoyuk township and all the way to the Mighty Roman and Persian Empires, what charcteristics provided the means for the creation of a lasting empire. It wasn’t all luck, was it? What features about the civilization allowed it to survive and flourish where others failed. The answer, my students, is right before you. Together, let’s reach out and grab it.

Welcome to the exciting new world of blogging.  You are already familiar with this from our literature circle blogs but know you have the opportunity to discuss the ancient world.  And no, this does not mean when Mr. D was little.

Your first posting is as follows.  Please select comments and leave behind a comment to the following posed question.

How was the civilization known as Catalhoyuk different from what else existed in the ancient world?  What ideas did they introduce that had previously not been very popular?  Was there something different about their settlement in comparison to others?  What features made it unique?  How was it the same and different as our society today?

Answer using the following expectations:

·        Answer whichever of the above question interest you.  You do not have to answer them all!

·        Be sure to use examples from class to demonstrate your understanding and to back up your answer

·        Use 4-6 complete sentences

·        No online slang (ex LOL, IMO, etc.)

·        Proper spelling and punctuation

·        Have fun and be original.  Don’t be afraid to take chances in your learning.
